The United States Uses New Materials to Make Stronger Super Capacitor Kamcap Electrodes

The researchers said that more accurate modeling methods can help researchers find more efficient new nanostructured materials, and this material can achieve a longer battery service life and provide higher energy with a lighter weight.


The tested materials namely reduced graphene oxide and aramid nanofibers (or rGO/ANF) are good candidates because of their strong electrochemical and mechanical properties. The electrodes of supercapacitors are usually made of porous carbon-based materials, which can achieve high-efficiency electrode performance. While reduced graphene oxide is mainly made of carbon, aramid nanofibers provide mechanical strength and increase the versatility of the electrode, allowing it to be used in military and other applications.


The researchers said: "What we want to convey is that traditional models, that is, models based on porous media, may not be accurate enough when designing such new nanostructured materials and exploring the use of such materials in electrodes or other energy storage devices. The reason is that the porous media model generally assumes that the pore size inside the material is uniform, rather than measuring the different sizes and geometric characteristics of the material."
