1. The problems that often occur in the power switching closing


With the rapid development of electric power and the construction level of urban and rural power grids continue to improve, AC high-voltage vacuum circuit breaker product development is particularly rapid, the pace of product replacement further speed up, and the development of power electronics in the power system makes the maintenance-free vacuum circuit breaker increasingly popular.


Especially in some special applications, such as mines, oil fields and other fields where explosion-proof requirements are strict and environmental restrictions are used to use oil switches and SF6 switches, and where the operating mechanism of the air switch is restricted, the use of vacuum circuit breakers is the best choice. In the power supply to the permanent magnetic operating mechanism, because of the lack of devices that can more ideally provide sufficient switching closing action current in an instant, most products still use the following two solutions, but the results are less than ideal.


(1) Use high-power power supply. But because of the instantaneous switching and closing requires a large instantaneous action current, the power supply module can provide a limited current amplitude, so the response speed is slow with expensive cost, complex technology, as well as large maintenance.


(2) Use large-capacity electrolytic capacitors. Although electrolytic capacitors can provide instantaneous high current, the power supply has improved compared with the performance of high-power, but due to capacity limitations, the discharge duration is short, the discharge current amplitude is too steep, resulting in less reliable switching closing effect.


2. The application of super capacitor in the power switching closing


The super capacitor applications make this problem can be better solved. Due to the super capacitor's ultra-high capacity and fast charging and discharging characteristics, it is especially suitable for the use of permanent magnet type vacuum switch with short instantaneous action time (≤150ms), large action current (>20A) and long action interval time (≥15s).


Simply speaking, the principle is to use the conventional power module to charge the super capacitor set during the interval time of closing and dividing action. During the action period, the super capacitor is used as the main energy provider, and the super capacitor's ultra-high capacity is used to quickly release the high current and drive the switching closing coil to absorb the electromagnet action within no less than the prescribed time.
